Now it is convenient to read from mobile phones!
The Samsung Galaxy R presented not so long ago (the model was previously known as Galaxy Z), on the one hand, is an ordinary smartphone: it does not have an unusual design or an all-metal body, it is not a new flagship of the company, and it does not have an amazingly low cost. On the other hand, we have before us an unusual device in terms of positioning: not a middle segment, but not a flagship either. Let's figure out together what kind of smartphone it is and why the company needs it, as well as how the model can interest users?
Samsung recently introduced a new classification for its devices, in particular, there is a description for models with the letter R, the first of which is the Samsung Galaxy i9103. You can read the news about this event in the Google feed, here.
The presented image shows that the models with "R" follow just after the flagship "S", so in terms of positioning Samsung Galaxy R is the last step before the flagship. T Samsung I9103 Galaxy R in Ghana his raises the question of how the company plans to split its lineup into segments, if the difference between the mid-high segment and the top one was already not very noticeable. For example, the flagship is now the SGS II, but the first SGS is still selling well, while technically it will give odds to many mid-range smartphones. The proximity of the Galaxy R to the top step, and not to the middle segment, is easily traced by the high cost (above average) of the smartphone and the design almost identical to the flagship.
I will not dissemble and say that I do not like the design of the device. To be more precise, I do not see any hint of design or something similar in the latest devices of the company, there is a strict shape of the case and the consistency of all devices in the same style. So it was with the first Galaxy, with the second and Galaxy R is no different from them. By the way, outwardly Galaxy S II and R are very similar, the "erka" is a little thicker, it has a battery cover with a metal plate and a more elongated hardware key under the screen. By these features, the models can be distinguished.
For some, the lack of design in the Galaxy R is a minus, for others it is a plus. Due to the fact that the smartphone is a black plastic box, you can hardly dislike it, rather, it simply will not cause any emotions. For example, you can't say the same about HTC Sensation. There are ardent opponents of its three-color cover and, on the contrary, supporters. Everything is simpler here.
The assembly of the smartphone is good, all parts of the case are perfectly fitted to each other, the gaps between the elements are minimal. In my sample there was a slight backlash in the upper left area of the battery cover, but I think this is due to a specific device.
The case is easily soiled from the front side, the large touch screen always gets dirty. On the reverse side, oddly enough, the case also gets dirty and, in my opinion, it wears out quickly. In my device, scuffs on the glossy plastic on the back and on the bezel of the screen appeared after only a week of operation. There are people who have Samsung Galaxy S II who will persistently prove to you that if you use your smartphone carefully, it will be as good as new for a long time. Unfortunately, this is most often not the case, and these words are almost not applicable in practice either to the SGS II or to the new Galaxy R. Even if you are careful, start carrying your smartphone only in your trousers or shirt pocket (when you used to boldly throw it into a bag or put it on a dashboard in a car), the surface of the phone will wear out, become covered with small scratches and scuffs will begin to appear.
The front side of the smartphone is scratch-resistant tempered glass (Gorilla Glass) that protects the screen. There is a plastic edging around the screen. The battery cover is also made of plastic, but a metal plate was attached to it on top. In my opinion, it turned out strange, like, yes, metal, here it is. But in fact, you immediately understand that this is just a blotch and ... Well, what can I say, this is again a completely plastic device, and the blotch does not make the weather, although on the official website this move is called “premium metal finish”.
The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy R are comparable to the Galaxy S II. At the same time, the new device is slightly thicker and visually puffier:
