Preventive stops and getting out of the car: changes for drivers
On February 16, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada supported as a whole as a law draft No. 2695 on increasing liability for certain offenses in the field of road safety, which increased fines for 20 traffic violations, and criminal liability was established for offenders who drove a car while intoxicated.
According to the text of the draft for the second reading, the law provides for a number of amendments to the Law on Road Traffic, in particular, in terms of the duties of drivers.

In the event of a stop signal, the driver must:
a) stop the vehicle in compliance with the requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations;
b) keep hands in sight of a police officer or military traffic safety officials and do not leave the vehicle without permission;
At the request of a police officer or military traffic safety officials:
a) present in a way that allows the police officer to read and record the data contained in the driver's license of the corresponding category, the registration certificate, and in cases provided for by law, an insurance policy or electronic documents;
b) get out of the vehicle.
A passenger, that is, a person who uses a vehicle, but is not involved in driving it, is obliged:
at the time of stopping the vehicle at the request of the policeman to be in his place until the corresponding order or the request of the policeman;
get out of the vehicle at the request of the policeman.
